Cumulative Chances

When setting up a new variable lock you have the option to turn on or off cumulative chances. This option isn’t available for fixed locks.

How Cumulative Chances Work

If for example you set up a variable lock that last 24 hours and the chance regularity is set up as hourly then you will be given a chance each hour to pick a card in the hope to find that single green card. With cumulative chances set as off the hour before the next chance starts immediately after you last picked a card. If you’re away from ChastiKey for a long period of time, several hours or a few days you will still only be entitled to one chance when you return. And once you returned and picked the hour starts again. Setting this option as no means this 24 hour lock could last days if you don’t return to the app every hour to pick a card.

Here’s an example of how a lock might run if you set the option as no and don’t come back each hour to pick a card:

You start the lock with 6 red cards (approximately 6 hours) at 1PM and pick a card. You reveal a red and told to try again in an hour at 2PM. 5 red cards, and 1 green card left. You come back at 2:30PM and reveal another red card and told to come back in an hour at 3:30PM. 4 red cards, and 1 green card left. You come back at 6:30PM because you were busy and reveal a red card and told to come back at 7:30PM. 3 red cards, and 1 green card left. You come back at 8:00PM and reveal a red card and told to come back at 9:00PM. 2 red cards, and 1 green card left. You come back at 9:45PM and reveal the green card. You can now unlock. But the total duration of that lock was 8 hours and 45 minutes because you didn’t come back every hour. With the option set as yes you’re not penalized for being busy or forgetting to come back each hour. Instead the hour you get a chance is based on the start time and if you’re away from ChastiKey for 4 hours when you come back you will get 4 chances. Using the same example above this is how cumulative chances set as yes would work:

You start the lock with 6 red cards (approximately 6 hours) at 1PM and pick a card. You reveal a red and told to try again in an hour at 2PM. 5 red cards, and 1 green card left. You come back at 2:30PM and reveal another red card and told to come back in 30 minutes as it’s 30 minutes until 3PM. 4 red cards, and 1 green card left. You come back at 6:30PM because you were busy. You’ve not picked a card since 2:30PM which gives you 4 chances (4 hours missed). With those 4 chances you reveal a red card (3 red cards, and 1 green card left), another red card (2 red cards, and 1 green card left) and then you reveal the green card. You can now unlock. You did this all at 6:30PM. Total duration of the lock was 5 hours and 30 minutes. So if you start a lock at 1PM with cumulative chances set as yes you will get a chance at 2PM, 3PM, 4PM and 5PM etc. and any hours you’ve missed will accumulate for when you return to the ChastiKey app.

The examples above also apply for locks where the chance regularity was set as daily, but instead of getting a chance each hour, you get a chance each day (24 hours).
